The entrance to Lair O' The Bear is just 5 miles west of C-470 on Colorado Highway 74/Morrison Road. Jefferson County says the park was home to Swedish settlers in the early 1900s. By the 1930s, only limited grazing was allowed which helped the area become wild again. The area for the park was purchased in 1987.

From the parking lot, there are 2 main trails. The Bear Creek Trail which appropriately, winds along Bear Creek. That is exactly where this is located.  It was painted plein-air in early June 2010.
